WHJY and Voice of the Rams, Steve McDonald, to be Receive Ben Mondor Award

Steve McDonald will be named the inaugural Ben Mondor Award winner at the Cox RI Sports Awards presented by RI National Guard.

The WHJY radio personality and voice of URI football and men’s basketball, will be presented the award in honor of the late Pawtucket Red Sox owner, Ben Mondor. The annual award is given to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions in a positive way in the realm of sports in Rhode Island. McDonald’s close relationship with Mondor makes this an even more special award for him. McDonald called receiving this award “the highest honor he could possibly imagine,” and continued by saying “ when you list people with the greatest positive impact [on sports] in Rhode Island, you start with Ben and go from there.”

The Fifth Annual Cox RI Sports Awards will be held Wednesday, June 15 at the RI Convention Center. It will honor the states top scholar athletes, the top college athletes and include featured speaker, Providence College basketball Coach Ed Cooley.
