Worcester Academy Grad Malone Hired as Denver Nuggets Head Coach
Tuesday, June 16, 2015
Malone's head coaching experience is limited, but promising. He was fired by the Sacramento Kings early this season - only after 24 games (11-13 record) - but earned respect from his players, especially the oft-troubled DeMarcus Cousins who bought into Malone's style of gritty defense. In 106 games with the Kings, Malone finished 39-67.
Malone had been an NBA assistant coach with four teams including Golden State (2011-13), New Orleans ('10-'11), Cleveland ('05-'10) and New York ('01-'05).
The NBA draft is next Thursday, June 25. The 2015-2016 NBA regular season starts on October 27, 2015.
