Yankees Rally to Stun Rangers in Game 1

Saturday, October 16, 2010

Now that one hurt!

It’s October and, for Red Sox fans, there’s only one option since the local nine didn’t make it to the post season – root hard for whoever is playing the New York Yankees.

In this case, that would be the Texas Rangers who opened up the ALCS last night at home against the Bronx Bombers. The game one pitching match-up certainly favored New York with ace C.C. Sabathia taking the mound against C.J. Wilson. But it was Wilson who out-dueled his Yankee counterpart.

Texas plated three against Sabathia in the first on a Josh Hamilton 3-run homer and they should have had more. In all, Texas scored 5 against the Yankee ace knocking him out of the game after just 4-innings.

The Rangers led it 5-0 after 6-innings and appeared to be well on their way to a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series. Appeared to be being the key phrase there.

The Yankees fought back scoring 1 in the 7th on a Robinson Cano solo homerun. They would plate 5 in the 8th facing five different Texas pitchers.

The shocking come-from-behind win energized New York and left the Rangers and their fans stunned. More importantly, Texas skipper Ron Washington has to wonder if he can trust his bullpen at all in this series.

The two teams meet this afternoon at the Ballpark in Arlington at 4pm with Phil Hughes getting the start for New York and Colby Lewis taking the ball for Texas. Needless to say, the Rangers do not want to head to New York down 0-2 in the series.

The Rangers are 0-7 at home in the postseason in the history of their franchise. They’re going to need that to change now if they hope to make it to their first World Series.
