Young Guns Lift Brown Over Dartmouth

Friday night in Hanover, New Hampshire, there was more evidence on display showing that the future of Brown basketball is very bright. Led by sophomore Tucker Halpern’s 25 points and 7 rebounds and freshman Sean McGonagill’s 15 points and 9 rebounds, the Bears knocked off the Big Green of Dartmouth 75-66.
Halpern finished 1 point shy of his career high which he matched last Saturday against Cornell when he scored 26. “Tuck is really starting to string some games together here and he’s becoming a consistent scorer for us,” said Brown head coach Jesse Agel.
The Bears’ sophomore is averaging almost 16 points per game in Ivy League contests and can score from all spots on the floor.
Freshman point guard Sean McGonagill, coming off a career-best 39-point performance last Friday against Columbia, had to spend a lot of time on the bench due to foul trouble last night. But the 25 minutes he did play were very productive. McGonagill’s value to the team cannot be understated as the Bears offense operates at a much higher level when he is on the floor.
Senior co-captain Adrian Williams scored 15 for the Bears. He has also been on a tear as of late averaging more than 16 points per game in his last 4 contests.
Fellow senior Garrett Leffelman was the only other Brown player to finish in double figures with 11.
Brown faces a tough task tonight when they travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts to take on the Harvard Crimson. Harvard is a perfect (11-0) at home this season. Last night, they held off Yale at the Leveites Pavillion 78-75.
Tonight’s game starts at 7pm.
