NEW: Saint-Gobain Gives Back to the Community at Girls Inc.

Saint-Gobain gave time and materials as they gave back to the Worcester community this week, refinishing the gym floor at local non-profit, Girls Inc.

Thanks to the connection forged through United Way of Central Mass. Brad Johnson, VP of Saint-Gobain Abrasives North America, was quickly aware of the situation and happy to lend a helping hand. The company is the world’s largest building materials company.

“Volunteers from Saint-Gobain provided the supplies and labor to make a difference in the quality of the gym, all at no cost to Girls Inc. of Worcester. We are truly grateful for this unexpected gift that will save the organization from a significant expense and provide excitement and enjoyment to the girls in our community,” said Victoria Waterman, Executive Director of Girl’s, Inc.

Saint-Gobain has more than 265 locations in North America and approximately 19,000 employees.

United Way’s mission of connecting people and resources to improve the community inspired United Way employee, Phil Wettengel, to make the connection after he noticed the poor condition of the gymnasium floor at Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. of Worcester was founded as the Worcester Girls Club in 1916, and has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of girls in the community. The organization’s mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold by offering quality research-based programs in a safe environment and providing opportunities for girls to take healthy risks, build leadership skills and master physical, intellectual, social and emotional challenges.

Saint-Gobain and its employees donated both the materials and their time to refinish the gym floor at Girls, Inc. this week, making a long-term significant difference in the quality of the experience for many girls in the city of Worcester, especially the 140 girls who play on the Girls, Inc. basketball team.

While United Way does fund projects, the group also has created a network of organizations, people, and businesses throughout central Massachusetts that, when connected to one another, change the community.

United Way funds programs serving people in 30 cities and towns in Central Massachusetts including Auburn, Grafton, Holden, Leicester, Paxton, Rutland, West Boylston, Worcester, and more.
