Tips for Feeding Your Toddler

Monday, February 20, 2012

When your child is no longer a baby anymore and enters into their toddler years you can pretty much feed them the same foods as the rest of the family. They need the same variety, just smaller portions. They also can eat with the rest of the family during family meals.

What to Feed Them:

According to the Massachusetts’ Department of Health and Human Services, toddlers need to eat according to the Food Pyramid. Here are some ideas: scrambled eggs and cheese; Rice, lentils and yogurt; French toast or pancakes toppled with fruit; English muffin pizza; Hummus with pita bread and cucumbers; Fish cakes and beans.

Being a Toddler Means:

Your one or two year old should be using a cup and not a bottle. They should be feeding themselves and probably making a mess. They should be eating a lot of small meals and snacks. You should encourage your toddler to use a spoon or fork. Eating a lot of small meals and snacks.

Adjust to Eating on their Own:

Parents should give their kids child-sized forks and spoons. Also, it is important to cut up their food into bite sized pieces. If you are trying to get your child to eat a variety of foods offer them new foods along with what they like.
