slides: The 2012 Miss Massachusetts Pageant

The Hanover Theatre played host to the 2012 Miss Massachusetts Pageant.  The two day competition ended on Saturday night, when Taylor Kinzler took home the coveted crown.  

Kinzler will go on to represent the Commonwealth in next January's Miss America Pageant..  The 86th annual pageant will take place on January 12, 2013 at the Theatre for the Performing Arts, Paradise, Nevada.  

Catie Coates of Shrewsbury was the only Central Mass resident to compete and, though she did not make the finals, was invited to dance as a non-finalist talent performer. 

Now, take a look below at some of the more memorable moments of the 2012 Miss Massachusetts Pageant.

Tamara Sacharczyk

Tamara Sacharczyk entered the pageant as Miss Greater Holyoke. The gifted dancer wowed the crowd with an acrobatic routine, and ran on a platform of raising awareness and funds for epilepsy.

Nicole DiBlasi

Nicole DiBlasi showed off her musical talent. The reigning Miss Taunton performed an impressive violin solo. Her performance was fitting, since she ran on a platform of getting children involved in music.

Marlena Johnson

Miss New Bedford Marlena Johnson belted out a tune for her talent performance. Johnson's platform centered around lowering the high school dropout rate in her community.

Catie Coates

Shrewsbury native Catie Coates performed Saturday, and showed the moves that earned her spots as a dancer at Walt Disney World and on the Sesame Street Live tour.

Lauren Lyles

Miss Middleboro Lauren Lyles surprised most in attendance with her opera-style singing performance. Her efforts drew a large ovation and her platform aimed to restore art programs in schools.

Taylor Kinzler

Eventual winner Taylor Kinzler was also able to amaze the crowd with some impressive dance moves. Kinzler will now add the Miss Massachusetts crown to go with her Miss Norfolk County prize.

Evening Gowns

Nicole DiBlasi impressed with her musical talent, but also in the evening gown round. DiBlasi would go on to take fourth runner-up in the competition.

A new Miss Mass

Taylor Kinzler being crowned by Miss Massachusetts 2011 Molly Whalen. Kinzler will now go on to represent Massachusetts in the Miss America Pageant next January in Las Vegas.

Emotional

Kinzler could not contain her emotions from the moment her name was called. She will have little time to let her achievement sink in, however, as she will begin touring and making appearances as Miss Massachusetts soon.

Congratulations

Finally, all of the finalists congratulate Kinzler for winning the crown. It was remarked earlier in the night by Emcee, and 1981 Miss Massachusetts, Debbie Ambrose that this group loved being around each other. Clearly, they showed it at the end of the competition.
