NEW: Navy Asks Personnel in the 5-State Area to Check In

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

The Navy is asking all its military and civilian employees and immediate family members in a five-state area to log on to a special web site so the Navy knows they are safe in the aftermath of the tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon yesterday. The web site is:

http://navyfamily.navy.mil

The Navy has activated its Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System, (NFAAS) for any personnel--Active Duty, Reserves, Department of the Navy Civilians, NAF/NEX employees and their immediate family members--who may have been directly affected by yesterday’s incident. This applies to all Navy personnel in the following state counties:

Connecticut: Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, And Windham
Massachusetts: Barnstable, Berkshire, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester
Maine: Androscoggin, Aroostook, Cumberland, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Sagadahoc, Somerset, Waldo, Washington, and York
New Hampshire: Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire, Coos, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford, and Sullivan
Rhode Island: Bristol, Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington

Personnel outside these areas are not required to logon to the system.

An event-based system used by the service following a disaster or other event, NFAAS helps determine how and where Navy family members are and whether or not they need assistance following major natural or man-made disasters, such as fires, hurricanes, floods or earthquakes. The Navy developed the system after Hurricane Katrina to help keep track of, and get aid to, its workforce.

Personnel unable to log on to the web site should contact their command or work place to report their whereabouts and let the service know if assistance is required, or call the NFAAS Help Desk at 866-946-9183.
