Update: No Apprehension Has Been Made

Governor Deval Patrick appeared with law enforcement officials providing updates on the logistics of the investigation and search presently underway in Watertown.Patrick and Edward P. Deveau, Watertown Police Chief thanked members of the public, the community and the press for their continued cooperation.

"I want to thank those who have respected our requests to stay indoors. It's been enormously important and helpful to the many law enforcement who are trying to do their job," said Patrick. "And we thank all of you for helping to get that message out. "The stay indoor request remains the same for the time being. That is unchanged."

Mayor Menino also appeared to speak to the public, delivering the message that citizens should stay home and not open their doors to anyone other than law enforcement.

"First, the work the public safety officials have done, the State Police, the Boston Police, the National Guard and the local - I'm very proud of the work they've done over the lat several days," said Menino. "Stay in your apartment or your home and don't let anyone in your home unless you have identified them as a public safety official.

"We are one city. We are a city of communityWe are a city that is not going to let the terrorists win over. We are going to get through this and be a stronge city as we move forward," he said.

State Police Commissioner Ed Davis apologized for the inability to provide information.

"Things change quickly and sometimes we have to change directon."We are progressing through the neighborhood, going door to door, street to street. There has been no apprehension at this point."

"This afternoon there will be a controlled explosion by some of the explosive ordinance folks in Cambridge," Alben said."That's going to happen at Norfolk Street at a house we have secured today. It's done out of an abundance of caution. It's done for the safety of law enforcement officials who are over there."
