College Admissions: Ivy League Remains Elusive for Class of 2018

With a 5.9% acceptance rate, Harvard University is the most selective Ive League school.

On Thursday, the Ivy League released regular decision notifications for the Class of 2018, providing some students with the thrill of a lifetime and dashing the hopes of others. While most acceptance rates declined slightly, the numbers did not differ substantially from last year. The University of Pennsylvania posted the biggest change in acceptance rates, moving from 12.1% last year to just 9.9% this year. Only Dartmouth posted a notable drop in applications, down almost 14% this year, following a sharp decline last year.

The opening round of the 2014 NCAA Division I Hockey Tournament was not played in Boston, but it essentially was a home game for the Boston College Eagles. The Eagles made the 38.9-mile drive down the Mass Turnpike to the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts to take on the Denver Pioneers. The end result was not pretty for the Pioneers, as the Eagles won 6-2.

John Monfredo: Field Testing on PARCC Begins

This week some students in the Worcester Public Schools will start being field tested in the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). The assessment test will measure whether students are on track to be successful in college and in their careers. A determination will be decided next year by the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) if this test will replace the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS).
