If you've got hair to spare, the fifth graders at Rhode Island College's Henry Barnard School want it. The elementary school students are hosting their first "Hair to Spare" Cut-a-Thon next Monday, June 6, to collect donated hair and spread awareness of hair loss due to various medical conditions. The event is part of Locks of Love's well-known campaign that invites anyone with 10 or more inches of hair to allow it to be trimmed and donated.

I went to LA to watch the Celtics win game 4 of the 2008 Finals. I was in Fenway for the World Series in 2004. Bill Belichick went to my college for goodness sakes. But the last time I watched a Bruins game was on Channel 38 when Bobby Orr was still playing. Until about three weeks ago, that is.

The 2011 Newport Summer Comedy Series has grown to be one of the largest comedy series/festivals in the country, not to mention one of the most popular summer events in New England, said Joe Rocco, who helms the event. A Pawtucket physician has been suspended from practice for participating in an illegal OxyContin Ring.
James Patrick O'Hair, MD, a 46-year-old physician with offices at Crest Urgent Care, Pawtucket, was writing prescriptions for name brand narcotics to a group of people in "the Ring," according to the RI Department of Health (HEALTH), who sold the drugs and split the proceeds with O'Hair.

Crime novels are a bit like soup recipes -- there are already a million of them, so who needs another one, especially since the ingredients are so familiar? Start with a couple of gruff cops, throw in an intrepid reporter, add a few bad guys who turn out to have hearts of gold, spice it up with a little sex and murder, and bon appetit! But, as we are happily reminded, there is always room for another really good one.

Children’s Miracle Network has named a Hasbro Children’s Hospital patient – 11-year-old Evan Huddon -- as a Champion for Rhode Island. Evan, who has spina bifida, will join child ambassadors, known as Champions, from every state as part of a Children’s Miracle Network program. The program brings attention to the important work being done at children’s hospitals by honoring remarkable children like Evan who have triumphed despite severe medical challenges.

Brown University's Commencement weekend always brings celebrities from far and wide to Providence, and this year was no different. Actor John Krasinski '01 (known for playing Jim on The Office) was spotted at the annual Campus Dance on Friday night.
