Central Mass Baseball Playoff Brackets Released

Thursday, May 30, 2013

St John's received the third seed in the Central Division I Tournament.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released the Central Division brackets for all three baseball divisions yesterday. All three championship games are set for Saturday, June 8, at Tivnan Field in Worcester, with the winners going to their respected division's state tournament.

Division I

Nashoba (17-3), Shepherd Hill (15-4), St. John's (17-5), Wachusett (14-6), and Doherty (13-7) received the first five seeds for the Division I sectional and a bye into the quarterfinals of the tournament. Those playing in the first round will play today and tomorrow, with the quarterfinals scheduled to be played on Wednesday, June 3. Shepherd Hill sophomore Brady Ravenelle is a player to watch in the tournament, leading Central Mass this season with a .657 batting average, four home runs, and 36 runs batted in.

Division II

Northbridge (18-2), Blackstone Valley (16-4), Auburn (16-4), Assabet Valley (15-5), and Hudson (15-6) received the first five seeds for the Division II sectional and a bye into the quarterfinals of the tournament. All first round games for the tournament will take place today, determining the quarterfinal match ups. Assabet Valley senior Corey McNair will be a player to watch, hitting a league-best .574 during the regular season while driving in 23 runs.

Division III

Littleton (16-2) received the top seed in the Division III sectional. Due to the odd number of teams that were selected for the tournament, Littleton will be the only team that will receive a bye into the quarterfinals. Hopedale (16-3) and West Boylston (14-4) received the second and third seeds for the tournament. West Boylston senior Travis Thunberg is a player to watch in the Division III tournament, hitting a league-best .612 on the season with 28 runs batted in.
