College impact players:
Rhode Islander is key cog on Top NCAA Lacrosse Team
Depending on the day, the University of Virginia is number 1 or 2 in the country. The 2nd ranked Cavaliers continues to roll. Coached by former Brown head coach, Dom Starsia, Rhode Islander Colin Briggs is a red-shirt sophomore and is making an impact. Running Midfield, the former All-Stater from Hendricken is getting regular minutes and is a serious scoring threat for the 12-1 Cavaliers.

Former RI All-Division II stars, Phil Winslow and Travis Durkin from Mount Saint Charles are high impact sophomores and are major reasons why Clark University is one of the top-turn around stories in college lacrosse.
Winslow as a freshman was freshman starter, a top scorer, and academic all-division and defenseman. Durkin started too in the 2009 rebuilding campaign and also made academic all-division.
This year Clark is having may be its best season for first-year Head Coach Jeff Cohen.
Other Rhode Islanders making an impact:
Ian Deveau is a big-time player for former Brown All-American and assistant coach John Thompson. The former Moses Brown All-Stater is Colby’s leading scorer and raises the question, should he be playing D-1?
Rob Walsh is getting time at Connecticut College. He has played in 10 of the first 14 games this season.
More to come on the college front next issue.

High School Watch List
The top players to watch this season in Rhode Island high school:
Nick Capalbo, Senior Goalie at Moses Brown – super skilled and can play at a top level in college.
Dan Serina, Midfielder at Portsmouth – can score and dominates the game between the boxes.
Alex Erban, Junior Attack at Mount Saint Charles – big rangy and is on pace to set the scoring records at the Mount. Number 24 (see photo has started since he was a freshman).
While the college ranks are swelling with RI players, there seems to be a void in RI high schools. The void may in part be to the raiding of talent by prep schools – we will look at the talent that has headed to prep school in future RI Lacrosse Insider reports.
