Beauty balm
After a summer of sun and sea, everyone’s skin can use a little help getting the pretty back. Beauty balms, known as BB Creams, are getting the loudest buzz. Originally formulated to protect skin after laser treatments, they are the new darlings of celebrity makeup artists’ bags. BB’s multi-task just like you do at the office, moisturizing, priming, illuminating, and creating the perfect canvas for the new fall makeup colors. A great one to try is Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream Skin Perfector.
Brow gel
Brows haven’t had center stage since the 80’s when thick was in. Now we like neat brows that emphasize eyes and give a youthful appearance to the face. While we don’t need to get in touch with our inner Brooke Shields, an expressive brow is a must this fall. Anastasia Brow Gel keeps everything in place and defines brows without fuss. It will go from office to the first parent teacher night without a single retouch. Anastasia can be found at Sephora.
Eye shadow compact
Fall is the best time of year to pick up a new eye shadow compact. The colors are professionally chosen to work together for both eye color enhancement and shape. Playing with your compact will remind you of your old school paintbox but you’ll be having grown up fun as your create eye looks for those romantic harvest moon nights. Kevin Aucoin Beauty’s The Essential Eye Shadow Set compacts lets you choose from four palettes to give you options that run the gamut from high fashion to sensually soft. Kevin Aucoin Beauty is a now available at Nordstrom.
Bottom fringe mascara
Most women eschew mascara on the bottom lashes due to run off and fear of the 60s Twiggy look. But Clinique has devised the most charming little tube of mascara just for bottom fringe. Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara comes in a deep black but the teeny applicator brush hits every lash with a perfectly correct amount for a no smudge wide eyed look. Clinique is at Nordstrom and Macy’s.
New blush
For years, Nars has cornered the market with their award-winning cult favorite blush in “Orgasm”. Now they’ve done it again with “Gaity”, a translucent rosy pink. It will give your post-tan cheeks the natural color they need without clashing with vibrant fall lips. No one will know you’ve put your beach chair to bed for the season! Nars is sold at Sephora.
Red lips
Nothing says fall like a deep warm lip color such as the black-cherry reds that raged across the runways during Fall Fashion Week. With a more intense color, you’ll want to make sure your application is more precise than the forgiving pinks and corals of summer. Use a creamy but matte formula like Maybelline New York Lipstick in Wine and Forever. Maybelline is available at CVS drugstores.
