Domestic Violence Awareness: Fashion Goes Purple

Saturday, October 08, 2011

It's the sound of a high heel stomping out the threat to the safety and happiness of Rhode Island women, and women everywhere. A purple heel.

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, STOMP OUT Domestic Violence will be host a fashion show on October 16 to support women and their families escaping domestic violence, by benefiting The Women’s Center of Rhode Island.

The Women's Center of Rhode Island operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and has been providing services to victims of domestic violence since 1974.  Their services range from shelter and court advocacy to prevention through community education.

Strutting their stuff

Local RI models will be strutting their stuff down the runway on October 16 at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in two fashion shows - one showcasing local boutiques and the fashions they sell, and the second show will shine the spotlight on established and up and coming Rhode Island designers and their original fashions.

See designs from Kara Wickman, Kelly Eident, Maria Mercado, Unspoken Word Designs by Makala Fields, Luniac Style and Toni Lyn Spaziano. Check out the latest styles from Sonya's , Gossip, Luli, Rock and Rose and Frills of East Greenwich. There will also be a showcase by Chip Douglas featuring clothing from Crack Artists and Area 4zero1, we well as a performance by 'Creature.'  VIP ticket holders will have the chance to meet designers and browse some of the boutique fashion in the VIP room.

More ways to donate

At the show, look for a collection box for used/unwanted cell phones - of any age, make, or model in any condition.  These will be donated to Women's Center of RI.  Women's Center of RI will also have an area for in-kind donations, please visit their Wish List for a list of the these items.

This event will include a 'purple carpet' paparazzi photo shoot, Chinese auction, a designer showcase room where you can purchase local fashions and jewelry, and a VIP after show party.
