RI Boutiques: Top Looks for Spring

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

We took to Rhode Islands most fashionable boutiques to get the buzz on this spring’s must haves. Here are the season’s biggest trends—from retro bohemian to translucent lace, this is what you’ll be wearing this spring.

Eco-Green Style

Love going green? Now anyone can wear the color. Dish Boutique is showing a lot of the Seattle-based organic company, Prairie Underground, pictured in the coat, right. According to the fashion minds at Dish, the transition colors as we head into spring are earthy, grey and green and the shapes are loose but still keeping some definition. Go for feminine draping in dresses, tops and even foldover pants to look comfortable but classic.

70s Glamour

Both 70s bohemian and sophisticated glamour are big this spring. Look for elegant blouses and pretty layers that are flowy but slimming for daytime. Mix in some vintage jewelry and statement accessories for added color. Celebrities have been showing us this look with Chan Luu wrap bracelets, left,

sold at Therapy, Wakefield's fashion hot spot. Also: denim is coming back in big ways with the reemergence of the bell bottom jeans. Go for a high-waisted pair and a peasant blouse for a clean chic look.

Lace

Be romantic but not over-girly; sensual but not over-suggestive. We are seeing beautifully crafted lace that would have once been part of a garment and now is the only layer. Lace is popular in knitwear and modern ways that aren’t just for the bedroom anymore. Combine sheer lace and silk for a look that's perfect for any spring evening (and screams sex appeal). Lace detailing is key this spring and you can get fantastic versions of this look at Providence's Mignonette in Fox Point on Wickenden Street (Mila Kunis also rocked it as this year's Oscars).

Scarves that Pop

Throw on a linen scarf with a tank top to pop some color into your wardrobe. Therapy has Love Quote scarves, a must-have item this spring. The label garnered attention when just about every starlet in Hollywood had one draped around their fashionable little necks. The light fabric is great for the coming transition into warmer weather.

Final Touches

Complete these looks with bold lip colors and big eyebrows this spring. Our style experts love the super sleek ponytail when you're wearing lace out on the town and ultra volume for everyday glamour. And when it's time to treat yourself, take to some of Rhode Island’s best boutiques to get more of what’s hot for spring.
