Girl Scout Cookies Go Digital on Friday in Worcester
Wednesday, January 14, 2015
"Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts (GSCWM) is excited to participate in Digital Cookie, a first-of-its-kind web platform that lets girls sell cookies from their own protected, personalized websites. In today’s fast-paced online world, Digital Cookie represents the next evolution of the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program, adding a digital layer that broadens and strengthens the 5 Skills girls learn—goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics––while introducing modern elements like website customization and e-commerce," said Dana Carnegie, Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts Community Relations Manager.
Locally, the Girl Scouts cookie program will run from Friday to March 1.
New Cookies This Year
“It’s an exciting time for the Girl Scout cookie program”, said Pattie Hallberg, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts. “For the first time, girls in our council will be able to reach out to extended family and friends across the miles and share their goals and invite them to participate in reaching them. Through Digital Cookie, we are bringing the Girl Scout Cookie Program fully into the 21st century."
This year, Girl Scouts are introducing two new kinds of cookies: "Rah-Rah Raisins, a hearty oatmeal cookie with raisins and Greek yogurt chunks, and Toffee-tastic, the limited edition gluten-free cookie."
Last year’s favorites, Samoas, Trefoils, Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos, and Savannah Smiles round out the eight varieties available this year. Each box cost $4.
Money earned from the cookie sale program stays with the local council and troops. Girl scouts decide how to spend their troop cookie proceeds and reinvest it back into their neighborhoods through community service projects and learning experiences.
