Media Buzz: Help for Hasbro, Doerr heads for the door, Sox $$, Here “Today” Gone Tomorrow?

Channel 6 Shake UP

As we told you this week, Channel 6 VP & GM Steve Doerr is making plans to leave the station now that Citadel Broadcasting gets ready to take over. Also this week, word that the 7pm news on 6 is history. It’s being replaced by a syndicated entertainment show. Also word on the street is that the 4pm news at WLNE has seen better days. Doerr is a true loss for the station because he is a “content” guy. His replacement will no doubt be more geared toward sales and the bottom line which usually always means less content, fewer reporters etc.

Hasbro gets radio boost

Hats off to all the on-air and off air folks at Pro-FM, Lite Rock 105, WPRO-AM, and Hot 106 for all their good work on the Hasbro Children’s Radio Telethon this week. This annual event helps raise thousands of dollars for Hasbro and the kids who need some help. It’s a great community event and if you have listened this week – the stories of those little children being so brave and talking on the radio should be reason enough to support this great cause if you can.

Sox losing more than Games

Don’t look now but the dreadful Red Sox record so far has people at the local WEEI station here in Providence worried…and also at NESN. Call me crazy, but a high priced team sucking wind doesn’t exactly make it easy to sell advertising in a venue where viewers and listeners are not exactly glued to the radio or TV.

Meredith Moving On?

Reports that Meredith Vieira – a Rhode Island native - could be calling it quits from her gig at the Today Show is out there. Her deal is done June and apparently she is thinking to spend more time with her family and wanting to get up at 3am anymore. Who can blame her? Well, for the multi-million dollar contract you might stick around. She started in 2006 and word is the fact that her husband has MS is a driving force in what may be her decision to leave.
