Providence and Cranston Teaming Up to Go Green
Monday, January 24, 2011
Much is said about the need for government to work together to buy smarter and be more efficient. Good news is potentially coming out of Providence and Cranston. Bids are being sought by the Providence Redevelopment Agency (for both Providence and Cranston) for a pilot program to provide 81 LED street lights. The initiative is underway and bids need to be submitted by January 31, but there is a mandatory site visit on January 25.
The project will be funded under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Deadlines:
The deadline to submit bids is Monday January 31, 2011. Bids will be opened at 2.15 pm in Providence.
Details:
Potential bidders should contact the City of Providence Purchasing Office (401-421-7740, Patti Jordan) to make sure they have the final, complete documents.
The two cities are seeking to replace existing high-pressure sodium (HPS) cobra-head roadway luminaires with LED lighting fixtures in commercial and residential neighborhoods.
Critical to the bid, the LED fixtures must have adequate ventilation to ensure that lighting service is comparable (or exceeds) HPS performance.
According to LEDs Magazine, "Bids are required for a total of 81 fixtures. In Providence, 44 LED street-lights are required to replace existing 250-watt HPS cobra-head fixtures. In Cranston, 37 LED street-lights will replace existing 100-watt cobra heads. In both cases the HPS fixtures are full cut-off roadway luminaires."
