Melanoma Foundation Announces Screenings, Fundraising, Symposium

With the incidence of melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, rising faster than any other cancer, the Melanoma Foundation of New England is renewing its push for education, awareness, screenings, and fundraising this month.

Do you want to learn how to protect yourself from skin cancer, the #1 diagnosed cancer in the U.S.? Find out at the Melanoma Awareness Event at Warwick Mall on Saturday, May 14 from 12-3. See what facial sun damage you already have and pick up pamphlets from the Melanoma Foundation of New England and the American Cancer Society about better sun protection and early detection of skin cancer and melanoma.

Bringing together experts + survivors: May 17

On Thursday, May 17, from 6:30am-9pm, the Melanoma Foundation will sponsor its Spring Symposium 2011 at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 35 Binney St, in Boston. It's an opportunity for education, discussion & connection for patients, survivors, families and friends. Free admission, parking, and refreshments.

Speakers include:
David S. Rosenthal, MD, Medical Director, Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Stacy Kennedy, MPH, RD, CSO, LDN, Senior Clinical Nutritionist, Dana Farber Cancer Institute; Deborah Steele, MA, ATR, Manager of Support Services Programming, Norris Cotton Cancer Center, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center; Amy Grose, MSW, LICSW, Clinical Oncology Social Worker, Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Raising funds + awareness: May 19

Help support the Melanoma Foundation of New England by buying lunch and a raffle ticket at Panera Bread on Thursday, May 19, from 12-2pm. The Melanoma Foundation of New England is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1999. The Foundation’s goals are to combat the rising rate of skin cancer and melanoma and support those struggling with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. The Foundation offers support groups, melanoma symposiums, and a one-on-one patient advocacy and support program. 10% of the lunchtime proceeds  and 100% of the raffle ticket donations go directly to the Melanoma Foundation of New England.
