Wednesday, September 28, 2011

The Rhode Island Department of Health has hired Dr. Christina Stanley as the new Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Rhode Island. She will officially begin work in the position on October 9.

Since 2002, Stanley has been working as Chief Medical Examiner for the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office, and before that she was the county’s Deputy Medical Examiner. She has board certifications in anatomic pathology, forensic pathology, and neuropathology.

“Dr. Stanley brings a combination of solid professional experience and the unique expertise of neuropathology,” said Director of Health Michael Fine, MD. “The hiring committee was impressed with the public health leadership role that Dr. Stanley played in identifying and responding to an increasing trend of deaths from methamphetamine. We look forward to her leading the Office of the Medical Examiner and to her joining us as part of the public health leadership team in Rhode Island.”

While working in San Diego, Stanley also oversaw the forensic pathology training program for two pathology residency programs in San Diego and lectured at the University of California at San Diego medical school. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and attended medical school at the University of California at San Diego.
