The Most Prescription Addicted States in U.S.: See Where MA Ranks

Massachusetts ranks 27th in the country for most Medicare Part D prescriptions per 100,000 people. According to a study by FindtheBest.com, the Bay State issues 299,917 prescriptions for every 100,000 residents.

Massachusetts is third among New England states falling just behind Maine (300,949, #26 overall) and being overmatched by Rhode Island who finished #3 on the list with a whopping 450,026 presecriptions per capita.

Health Grove, a sister site of FindtheBest.com, based its study on 2012 data from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). According to the data, 37 million prescriptions were handed out by healthcare providers in 2012.

The three states with the highest amount of prescriptions per capita in 2012 were West Virginia (478,244), Kentucky (465,915), and Rhode Island.
