Scheduled for Tuesday, October 18 and Tuesday November 8, the classes will run from 8am-1pm, followed by a 4-course luncheon with paired wines. The October class will feature an array of sweet and savory pasta dishes, and the November course is themed "Epicurian," focusing on gourmet delicacies from land and sea. 4. Fall flyfishing classes
You'll swear you're on vacation in Vermont when you join these fly-fishing courses courtesy of the Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish and Wildlife. Try an introductory workshop on freshwater fly-fishing on Sat Oct 8 from 9am-3pm at Addieville East Game Farm in Mapleville, which will cover casting techniques, fly-tying, tackle needs, and knot-tying (plus time on the water). For more practiced hands, how about a fly-fishing safari around Aquidneck Island on the Old Colony Train on Oct 15, with stops at several remote public-access fishing areas around the island. The program is designed for salt-water fly-fishermen of varying levels. Both workshops are $35
5. Old-style canning workshop in luxury
It's a Martha Stewart dream come true: join Sherri Brooks Vinton, author of Put 'em Up! for a lesson in home canning in the luxurious embrace of Watch Hill's Ocean House. Using produce from local farms, Vinton will demonstrate traditional methods and help you learn how to preserve the best of RI's local harvest. Proceeds benefit the Bradford Johnnycake Center of Westerly. Sept 24, 10am-noon, $50 per person. To reserve, email [email protected] or call 584-7083.
