This is a summer weekend full of celebration, and we've got the best quintet of activities, from Aquidneck Island to the Blackstone Valley.

Celebrate Japanese Culture in Newport

Thursday-Sunday The Black Ships Festival honors the friendship between Newport and Japan through a variety of events that celebrate Japenese and American art and culture. This year celebrates the 52nd anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Newport and Shimoda, Japan. Events include a formal Gala, Japanese Arts & Crafts such as Origami and Ikebana, Martial Arts, and a Japanese Tea Ceremony. The Taiko Drums will be a highlight! Stroll and Shop in Providence

Friday-Saturday One of the state's loveliest shopping districts is putting all kinds of deals on its sidewalks this weekend. The Wayland Square Annual Sidewalk Sale is the place to score great deals outside with your friends and family. The stores will have fantastic items out and on sale and the restaurants are ready to serve you. Friday 10am - Saturday 9pm.

Explore and Discover Lincoln’s Great Road

Saturday See what’s great about one of the most historically significant areas in Rhode Island, Lincoln’s historic Great Road. Visitors receive a passport and collect a different stamp from each site they visit. Those who collect stamps from all eight sites can get a free dessert at the Lodge Pub with the purchase of their lunch or dinner. Free admission, 11am-5pm.

Admire the Arts in Tiverton

Saturday Set in the beautiful Mill Pond Area of the Historic Tiverton Four Corners Village, the 24th Annual Tiverton Four Corners Arts & Artisan Festival features works of the best local and regional artists. Free Admission. 10am-4pm. Rain date Sunday. 3948 Main Rd, Tiverton. Call 662-6269.

Connect to Nature in Little Compton

Saturday Bring your whole family to the fourth annual Goosewing Family Day. Learn about the shorebirds, fishes and seashore creatures that inhibit Rhode Island's shoreline. All participants will receive a special Connect to Nature prize patch. A special live animal demonstration will begin at 10am at the Environmental Center. Register to be updated on the July 30th rain date. Free Admission. Goosewing Beach Preserve, end of South Shore Beach Rd, Little Compton. Parking fee at South Shore Beach. 10am-2pm. Call 331-7110
