5 Weekend Musts: Soccer Comes To Worcester + More

Experience a worldwide event right here in Worcester, as it hosts 20 international soccer teams for the Worcester World Cup.

Another great summer weekend lies ahead, with an even better lineup of events to keep you busy. From soccer to music to animal encounters, read on for just a few of the awesome things you should be gearing up for this weekend.

Worcester World Cup 2013, Worcester

Friday-Sunday  This weekend Foley Stadium will play host to 20 international soccer teams, over 350 players and hundreds of cheering fans that make up the Worcester World Cup. The Cup is organized by the neighborhood soccer program, Cultural Exchange through Soccer, a program that focuses on bringing immigrant communities together in order to improve the community. The event will have food from many different countries including Jamaica, China, Liberia, Mexico, and Ecuador. 5:00pm-8:00pm. Summer Concert, Worcester

Saturday  What could be better than sipping on coffee and listening to a free concert given by the Worcester Music Academy? This Saturday, Nu Café is offering a free concert that is open to the public. Patrons can enjoy drinks, food and even swipe for WOO points. The Worcester Music Academy aims at culturally bringing Worcester together, as it welcomes musicians (and potential musicians) of all ages. Barbara J. Walker Butterfly Festival, Worcester

Saturday  Enjoy a day of butterflies, live caterpillars, food, vendors and face fainting at the 6th Annual Barbara J. Walker Butterfly Festival. This year, Sam Jaffe will give a live caterpillar show and a live butterfly theatre walk, where actors in costume will tell stories of butterflies. There will also be and insect cartoon drawing class and a new sensory trail, a trail that includes Braille signs, tactile maps and a rope guide. If you come in costume, you get a special prize. Experts will give tours and lead observation stations. 10:00am-4:00pm. Boston Sprockettes Burlesque Show, Worcester

Sunday If you are feeling nostalgic, or simply want to be transported into another era, be sure to catch the Boston Sprockettes perform this Sunday at the Lucky Dog Music Hall. The group is made up of three women, who all dance, sing, and act. Morningside Lane will be joining The Boston Sprockettes to bring a high-energy performance. The band consists of five members who play rock/alternative/punk music. The Boston Sprockettes pride themselves on supporting local, new businesses by performing and advertising for two nights for free. 8:00pm-2:00am. Lucky Dog Music Hall. 89 Green Street. Birds of Prey, Worcester

Sunday  Get up close and personal to various birds of prey. The EcoTarium in an indoor and outdoor museum, aimed at educating the community about different forms of wildlife. This weekend, they will give talks about the different raptor species, and even allow a few patrons to touch and even hold a few of the birds.
