Women Who Inspire In Worcester

Friday, April 14, 2017

From left to right Amanda Cote', Cara Brindisi and Sarah French - Founders

The Second Annual Women of Worcester Concert was held this Saturday April 8th at the Fiddler's Green in Worcester. This show sold out in 28 hours! The house was packed with standing room only. I didn't see the show last year, but heard a lot of great things about it, so I thought I would check it out. So glad that I did.

This was an evening of love, community, talent, inspiration and what can happen when a group of people come together to reach a common goal. The show was Produced and Directed by Cara Brindisi, Amanda Cote', Sarah French Miriam Smith and Caroline Killoh. Their "Goal" to provide a network for musicians and artists of all ages, backgrounds, cultures and genders to create events, workshops and concerts for their community in Central Mass. Also for the older more seasoned musicians to teach, inspire and give a helping hand to the younger musicians coming up and trying to find their way.

Their tireless hard work, preparation, cooperation, and endless hours of practice to form a seamless flow of performance paid off. As the lights lowered and the first act took the stage we waited in anticipation of what was to come. From the first act until the last, we were entertained, we were educated, we were enlightened by personal stories and delighted by outstanding talent.

The Women of Worcester performers this year were, Lisa Brumby, Lydia Fortune, Olivia Frances, Susan Scola, Toni Ostrow, Sunta Africa, Jen Antkowiak, Raianne Richards and Mud Rocheleau-Demers. Also Poets Jenith Charpentier and Rushelle Frazier. Founders Cara Brindisi, Amanda Cote' and Sarah French joined in as well. They were backed by an amazing band of seasoned musicians, Dan Sitar on Guitar, Michael Harmon on Drums, Scott Sheehan on Bass and Bryce Kanzer on Keyboards.

For me it was exciting to see so many performers I hadn't seen before, all in the same show. You can be sure that you will be hearing about a lot of them from me in the near future!

Tina Marie Billing

There was a basket raffle with donated items from Birchtree Bread Company, Crompton Collective, E.L. Music, Enlightened Interventions, LLC, Padavano's Place, The Mill and That's Entertainment. None of this would have been possible without these donors. Thank you for your generosity and support to such and important community event. All proceeds from the basket raffle went to Abby's House. Justina Lachapelle educated us about this wonderful neighborhood shelter for women and their families, who without this resource would have no place to go. Please consider going to their website abbyshouse.org and making a donation.

A special thank you goes out to Jaime and Ryan Sens at Fiddler's Green for hosting this event and realizing the importance of supporting local music. Also to JDL Productions for making everyone sound so good.

My guess is they will need a larger venue next year when word gets out about this concert.  My hats off to all involved! I left inspired and enlightened. All of the above mentioned performers have their own acts and bands so check out their websites and facebook pages. Until next time "Get Out and Support Local Live Music!
