Aurea Honors Pawtucket Poet Galway Kinnell in Concert

Pawtucket's poet Galway Kinnell's star has flared far from his roots in the quiet Blackstone Valley - national acclaim, Pulitzer Prize, and staunch postion in the iconography of 20th century American poetry.

Now, Rhode Island's dynamic AUREA brings Kinnell home in an artistically vibrant program of poetry and music, this Sunday.

"How Many Nights: A Tribute to Galway Kinnell," signifies AUREA's return engagement to the Pawtucket Arts Festival, and a collaboration of poetry and music that has distinguished the group in its rise as an innovative and exploratory ensemble. Now, the poetry that AUREA seeks to blend with unique musical programming, stems from its own wellspring: Pawtucket.

The program will feature Kinnell’s original poetry; Mozart and Brahms Clarinet Quintets; Bill Barclay’s Sonnets to Orpheus, (settings of Kinnell’s vivid translations of Rilke); and harmonica improvisations by Chris Turner. Special

guests, Ian Greitzer (clarinet) and Alexey Shabalin (violin) join AUREA regulars, Charles and Consuelo Sherba, Emmanuel Feldman, Nigel Gore and Chris Turner (founders Charles Sherba, Nigel Gore, Consuelo Sherba, and Chris Turner pictured left). The program is free and open to the public followed by a Talkback with the performers and Bill Barclay, Composer in Residence, Shakespeare & Co., Lenox, Massachusetts.

The concert, on Sunday September 12 at 8:30pm at St Paul's Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket, is part of the Pawtucket Arts Festival. For more information, go to AUREA's Web site, here.
