Children’s Museum Play Areas a Summer Hit

On a sunny weekday, GoLocalProv took a quick trip across town to check out two new exciting outdoor play structures at the Providence Children’s Musuem.
The first, Underland, is a subterranean world located under the museum’s entrance ramp, filled with tunnels, a musical sculpture, wiggly worms, and creature sounds. We were lucky enough to catch Underland’s designer, Chris Sancomb, to talk about his creation.
The second, The Climber, is a 24-foot tall structure that challenges kids to navigate an enclosed maze of interconnected platforms at various levels in order to make their way to the top. The Climber is designed by father and son duo Tom and Spencer Luckey. Both are nationally acclaimed artists and architects. This fun and safe structure is their first major outdoor installation.
And the kids love them both – GoLocalProv talked with a few of the many children playing on the structures, and the verdict was unanimous – they’re a great success!
