Saturday, September 10
12:45pm: 11th Annual Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Cross-Country Race/Walk. Bryant College, Smithfield. A memorial ceremony at 12:45, then 5K cross-country run and 2-mile fun walk, to raise money for the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Foundation. For more information/registration, go here.
6:30pm: Remembering 9/11 Before WaterFire, Waterplace Park, One Financial Plaza in Providence. Before WaterFire, take a moment with your family to remember those whose lives were affected by this tragic event. A plaque inscribed with the names of those from Rhode Island whose lives were lost during the attack will be unveiled.
Sunday, September 11
8:30am: Memorial Service, RI State House
9am: A tolling of the historic 1822 Holbrook Bell. Chepachet Free Will Baptist Church, 1213 Putnam Pike, Route 44.
9am: Sail for Pride 2011. An 18-mile race around Conanicut Island starts just outside Newport Harbor in commemoration of those lost in the terrorist attacks. Benefits the Wounded Warrior Project and the Rhode Island Red Cross.
9am-4pm: Day of Honor at the Zoo. Roger Williams Park Zoo, 1000 Elmwood Ave, Providence. A special day of honor to salute the men and women who serve our nation and communities. Free admission for veterans and members of our armed forces as well as active and retired police, fire and ambulance personnel and emergency responders. Identification of active or retired status must be shown to receive free admission.
10:15am: 10th Anniversary Mass for 9/11 celebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop Ernest B. Boland. St. Eugene’s Church, 1251 Putnam Pike, Chepachet, followed at approximately 11:15 a.m. by a flag-raising ceremony at Town Line Farm, Route 100, Chepachet.
Noon: Statewide tolling of the bells. Faith communities throughout the state will toll their bells at noon as an act of remembrance and a call to peacemaking.
1pm: Mass of Remembrance and Blessing. Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be the main celebrant at a Mass at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, with the Rev. Robert L. Marciano, chaplain colonel with the Rhode Island National Guard, as homilist. Police, fire and military from Rhode Island, along with their families, are invited to attend in uniform.
2:30pm: Service of Remembrance and National Affirmation. Chepachet Free Will Baptist Church, 1213 Putnam Pike, Route 44. 568-5894.
4:30-7:30pm: Service to Armed Forces Fund. Reception and awards ceremony at Newport Shipyard. 849-6922.
2pm: Expressions of Courage and Conflict, A 9/11 Memorial Event. Providence Community Library: Rochambeau Branch, 708 Hope St. Community is invited to help create a multimedia tapestry that speaks to and creates dialogue around the themes of courage and conflict. Event is part of a yearlong project in partnership with The Center for Dynamic Learning. 461-1813.
2pm: Labyrinth walk. Ancient practice of walking a spiritual labyrinth to enhance the human capacity for peace. Brown University College Green, Providence. Walkers of every religious and cultural tradition are invited.
4pm: Remembering 911 Together: A Rite of Remembrance. Outdoor multifaith service on the Brown University campus in front of Manning Chapel, sponsored by the Rhode Island Council of Churches. Brown University President Ruth Simmons will deliver the closing remarks.
Monday, September 12
Weeklong: A Week of Prayer and Remembrance. Providence College will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks during a series of events on campus presented as A Week of Prayer and Remembrance.

3pm: Dedication of the memorial plaque for alumni who died. Behind the War Memorial Grotto.

5-8pm: Opening gala reception for Vanishing Point, an exhibition of photographs from Ground Zero by Jason Eskenzai, Reilly Gallery at the Smith Center for the Arts (use Eaton Street gate).

7:30pm: Prayer vigil for the 10th Anniversary of Sept. 11. St. Dominic Chapel.
- Ongoing: Exhibit: Resurrection and Hope: Faith in the Aftermath of 9/11, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12-Oct. 7. Center for Catholic and Dominican Studies.
Tuesday, September 13
4pm: Where Was God? Contemporary Thomistic Reflections on the Problem of Evil by Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., president of Providence College, Aquinas Hall Lounge.
