Deer Tick Comes Home This Weekend

Thursday, November 04, 2010

Providence’s own indie/folk/rock band Deer Tick, who will celebrate a long-anticipated homecoming with a trio of live shows this Friday and Saturday at AS220 (and next weekend at the Newport Blues Café), has recently recorded a single as part of Partisan Records' 7″ vinyl series. The exclusively vinyl releases in the series feature new songs or compilations with other Partisan Records artists. Deer Tick’s album is a split between the band and Jonny Corndawg, who has two songs on the record, which retails for $8. “[Vinyl] is the best way to listen to music,” said Partisan co-owner Ian Wheeler from a Deer Tick tour stop at famed Washington, DC nightclub, The Black Cat (co-owned by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, currently of the Foo Fighters).

Band to Head Back Overseas

Though Jonny Corndawg, described as “traditional country with a unique lyrical twist,” differs in musical genre than the indie/rock Deer Tick, the two toured in years past and are both part of the Brooklyn-based Partisan family. Wheeler noted that the band's Newport appearance next week will wrap the 9-week tour and after they unwind, guitarist/vocalist John J. McCauley III will be recording a solo album. When it wraps, he will join the band on tour, while playing and promoting his solo effort, on tour this January in Spain.
