FirstWorks to Feature AILEY II Workshops, Performances

Saturday, February 05, 2011

Dancers, dance students, and dance lovers, take note: FirstWorks kicks off an exciting series of residencies with AILEY II, the junior company of the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, this month, which will culminate in the first-ever Rhode Island appearance of the company on stage in May.

On February 9 at 5pm, members of AILEY II will conduct a master class for intermediate and advanced dancers at Brown University's Ashamu Dance Studio, and on the 10th, the company will present a special performance/demonstration for Rhode Island youth at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence.

Community invited

FirstWorks, as part of its mission of community outreach, is making both these events available to the public. Prospective dancers should pre-register for the workshop ($10) by calling 421-4278. Space is limited, but walk-ins may be accommodated as space allows. Limited free tickets to the Feb 10 performance are available on a first-come, first-serve basis by calling 421-4278.
