Freedom Song Festival Supports Veterans in Need

Friday, June 15, 2012

Veterans in need and their families can receive a variety of goods, services and advice at Veterans, Inc.’s 7th annual Stand Down event, one of its two sponsored programs this weekend.

Food, clothing, personal care items, haircuts, massages, acupuncture, counseling, legal services; and services and advice related to employment and training, housing, and healthcare will all be available at Stand Down, which take place on Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  Raffle prizes, including a car, and other giveaways will also be awarded.

More than 40 providers are expected to participate, representing non-profit organizations, for-profit businesses, and government agencies offering veterans’ services, health and human services, and social services.

Freedom Song Concert

The 5th annual Freedom Song Festival will take place on the front lawn of the Veterans Inc. property on Saturday from noon until 6 pm following the conclusion of the Stand Down event.

The Hip Swayers are one of five performers scheduled to play in the Freedom Song concert

The bands Daliaz, Sugarfoot Horns and the Hip Swayers and solo artist Derek Drowne and April Renzella will perform, and Finz, the mascot for the Worcester Sharks will be on hand for the kids.

“We are excited to welcome friends, neighbors and supporters of all ages to our beautiful grounds in Shrewsbury and have them join us for a day of music and entertainment while we celebrate veterans,” said Vincent J. Perrone, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Retired), Veterans Inc. President and CEO. “We’re looking forward to this fun-filled event.”

The Freedom Song Festival, which is free and open to the public, is a fundraiser for Veterans Inc., and all proceeds will be used to support programs for our Veterans in need and their families.

“This is the perfect opportunity to spend time with your family and friends as we raise awareness and support for our brave American heroes,” explained Denis Leary, Veterans Inc. Executive Director. “What better way to show your support of those that put their life on the line for our country, as to honor and celebrate all veterans while enjoying great music and delicious food."

Both events will take place at Veterans Inc., 59 South Street in Shrewsbury.
