GETTING OUT: Drinks Outside for the End of Summer

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Ceres Bistro inside the Beechwood Hotel is always great for outdoor drinks.

If you have noticed a slight chill in the air these past few days, you're not alone. Fall is coming, and this Labor Day weekend may be your last chance to enjoy some drinks outside with friends, especially at night.

Have no fear, as GoLocalWorcester has you covered with the top spots around town to grab a drink outdoors.

Ceres Bistro

Always an outdoor favorite, Ceres Bistro offers a wide variety of specialty cocktails, wines and draft beers. Located in the luxurious Beechwood Hotel, Ceres has a sophisticated flair, and you'll feel right at home on their comfortable patio.

Finish out the summer with their Thatcher's Lemonade. This spin on your childhood summer favorite contains Double Cross vodka, Thatcher's Organic blueberry liqueur, Meletti limoncello, and, of course, fresh squeezed lemon juice.

Flying Rhino

Those looking for a slightly more casual patio setting can head to The Flying Rhino Cafe and Watering Hole on Shrewsbury Street. There are always catchy tunes in the air, and this hip spot is a great place to catch up with friends over drinks and some light appetizers.

Try one of several crisp Sauvignon Blanc bottles off their wine list, or experiment with one of their many martinis.

Armsby Abbey

If craft beers are more your thing, head over to Armsby Abbey for one of their many unique brews. The Abbey has 22 rare beers on tap in addition to a full bar.

While known for beer, the Abbey may keep you coming back for more with "Twisted Classics" like Basil Gimlets and Strawberry-Jalapeño Margaritas. Just be sure not to drink too much, and be aware that after 6 pm, the Abbey is exclusively for those 21 years of age and older.

Grab a table outside at Armsby Abbey and enjoy a craft beer or a twisted classic.

Tweed's Pub

Tweed's is a traditional Irish Pub located on Grove Street, and the patio is still open for summer. There are plenty of beers to choose from, and the pub has some of the best burgers around.

If you feel like more traditional pub fare, munch on some fish and chips, or whatever your favorite pub treat is, as you down a stout or lager in the open air.

Mezcal

While there may not be a lot of outdoor seating at Mezcal Cantina on Shrewsbury Street, scoring a table outside there is definitely worth it. After all, who wouldn't want to sip a margarita in the sun while munching on some chips and salsa?

The real selling point for Mezcal, at least from a drinking perspective, is the incredible selection of tequilas. Mezcal offers well over 100 varieties of tequila, and their tequila menu is constantly being updated. Come back as often as possible to try their newest bottles.
