Halloween Freebie: Treats and Tricks at Old Sturbridge Village

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Old Sturbridge Village will offer a free evening Halloween program on October 25. The new event, "Treats and Tricks" is free to the public, and replaces "Things that Go Bump in the Night."

Halloween is right around the corner, and parents looking for safe, fun, and affordable options for their children should check out Old Sturbridge Village's newest event; Treats and Tricks. Free to the public, this event is a revamp of their "Things That Go Bump In The Night" from previous years, and will take place on Friday, October 25th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

This event offers "spooky but safe" trick or treating for children, who can traverse house to house around the festive Village Common.  Other festivities at the museum include; puppet shows by Caravan Puppets, storytelling by Katie Greene, and Lucky Bob the Comedic Juggler.  In an effort to make Old Sturbridge Village accessible to everyone, CEO Jim Donahue opted to forego the fee-based Halloween event from years past, and put on this free program instead.  In lieu of an admission fee, guests of Treats and Tricks are encouraged to bring canned food for donation to a local food pantry.

According to Donahue, "Trick or Treating is a cherished childhood memory for most of us, and we think Old Sturbridge Village is the perfect place to share this experience with younger generations." For those who are unfamiliar, Old Sturbridge Village is a living history museum, celebrating life in the 1830s.  The museum is open seven days a week from 9:30 AM until 5:00 PM. with free parking.
