IYRS Hosts Open Houses at Bristol and Newport Campuses

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

This afternoon, the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) campus in Bristol will host an Open House where the public can learn more about skills taught at the school that can lead to careers in the marine industry. Bristol is home to the school’s Marine Systems program, where students learn to install, maintain, and troubleshoot the onboard systems used on classic and modern boats, and the school’s newly launched Composites Technology Program, which gives students a foundation in composites processes, techniques, and technology. The Composites program is targeted to meet the needs of the marine industry, but graduates will have a choice of career paths since the high strength-to-weight ratio of composite materials pioneered by boat builders is now in demand by many industries—including wind energy, aerospace, and transportation. Today’s open house runs from 4-7pm today at 253 Franklin Street in Bristol.

Newport Campus Open House Tomorrow

IYRS will host an Open House at its historic waterfront campus in Newport tomorrow, November 17, at 449 Thames Street. Home to the school’s Boatbuilding & Restoration program, the Newport campus is also the site of notable restorations, including the restoration of the rare 1885 schooner yacht Coronet. Newport’s Open House runs from 4-7pm.

Staff and instructors will be on hand at both events to meet with potential students and answer questions about the school’s marine training programs, admissions, and financial aid. Attendees will also be able to view demonstrations and student projects at both locales. For more information about the Open Houses, call 848-5777, ext. 203 or visit www.iyrs.org.
