NEW: RIer Ann Burke to Appear on ABC’s “The View” Today

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Ann Burke, President of the Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund, from North Kingstown will appear on ABC’s The View on this morning, September 27th.  Burke will appear alongside Vice President Joseph Biden to discuss the issue of dating violence.  Recently, Ann and Chris Burke attended a reception for the 17th Anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act at VP Biden’s DC residence.

About the Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund

The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund was founded to honor the life of Lindsay Ann Burke, a 23 year old Rhode Island College graduate from North Kingstown. Lindsay was a compassionate, honest and trusting young woman who cared deeply for others. She was trying to break the cycle of violence when she was murdered. Lindsay was an education major and came from a family of educators.

The Fund supports the prevention of relationship violence primarily through the education of teens, parents, educators, and the public.  In 2007, Lindsay’s family and friends helped to pass the Lindsay Ann Burke Act, sponsored by former Attorney General Patrick Lynch requiring dating violence policies and education in RI schools.  The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund continues to work closely with national organizations to spread dating violence education to other states.  It has partnered with the National Association of Attorneys General, the National Foundation of Women Legislators, and Liz Claiborne Inc.  Ann and Chris Burke are co-founders, along with Liz Claiborne Inc., of the Love is Not Abuse Coalition, a grassroots coalition of concerned parents and citizens who promote the prevention of dating violence through education.

Support the Fund on October 6

The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund will hold a Dinner/Dance Fundraiser, “Imagine: A World Without Relationship Violence, Benefit at the Beach”, on Thursday, October 6, from 6-9:30pm at the Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown, Rhode Island.  The evening will begin with a cocktail hour, followed by a buffet dinner, basket raffle and dancing to music provided by DJ  Michael Delyi of Front Row Entertainment.  All proceeds fund teen dating violence workshops and curriculum materials for Rhode Island middle and high school health teachers, as well as workshops on this topic for school staff, parents, and the public.  Tickets are $50 per person. For information or tickets, e-mail [email protected] prior to Thursday, September 28th.  And visit www.labmf.org for more information on teen dating violence.
