NEW: Worcester Marathon and Half Marathon Results

Sunday, June 03, 2012

Despite a weekend washout forecast and concerns about race producer Dean Reinke, the inaugural Worcester Marathon went off without a hitch.

200 runners finished the 26.2 mile course, led by Zach Einterz, 26 of Cambridge, who finished the race with a time of 2:48:00. Michael Carroll, 46 of Millville, placed second overall, with a time of 2:55:54.

Amy Wachler, 25 of Boston took 16th place overall, as well as the women’s crown with a time of 3:26:29. Cheryl Bechunas, 41 of Sutton, took second in the women’s division.

The half marathon field had 629 runners, led by Boylston native, Ryan Billings, 27 who currently resides in Jupiter, FL. Billings' time was 1:18:00. Adam Parslow, 28 of West Boylston was the top local finisher, placing second over all with a time of 1:18:15.

On the women’s side, Hannah Zeitner, 18, claimed the women’s division crown with a time of 1:29:44, and was 17th overall. Christi Powers, 38, of Holden, who placed second in the women’s division, was the top local women.

Jeffrey Adair, Sr., who finished with a time of 2 hours and 52 seconds, said the course was very challenging.

“Considering all the hills, that’s pretty good,” Adair said. “It’s not as good as my New Bedford time, but it’s good.”

106 runners competed in the 5K race; Matthew Tremblay, 26, of Worcester won the race with a time of 19:43.
