Nine Cities Come to Providence to Study Education Model

Monday, November 15, 2010

On November 15 and 16, the Providence After School Alliance will be holding a two-day City Symposium “Creating Citywide After School Systems for Youth Success" at the Rhode Island Foundation. New Orleans and Nashville are two of nine cities coming to Providence to learn how to replicate Providence’s AfterZone model for middle school youth. Interest has been prompted by three recent reports by Harvard Family Research, Public Private Ventures and the Rand Corporation heralding PASA’s model.

The two-day training will include meetings with staff, partners and tours of the middle school AfterZones. Presentations will be made by Superintendent Tom Brady, Mayor Elect Angel Tavares, The Rhode Island Foundation's Neil Steinberg, the Wallace Foundation and many of the city and non-profit leaders who have contributed to making PASA and the AfterZone a national model. Attendees include assistant superintendents, executive directors, consultants, foundation members, and city government officials.

The following cities are sending delegations: New Orleans, LA, Nashville, TN, Charlotte, NC, Danville, NC, Omaha, NE, Buffalo, NY, Woonsocket, RI, Asheville, NC, Newport, RI.
