RI High Schoolers Honored in Congressional Art Competition

Congressman David Cicilline recognized the artistic achievements of Rhode Island high school students as he announced the winners of the 2011 Congressional Art Competition at an award ceremony this week. The annual competition is sponsored by members of the US House of Representatives as a way to facilitate artistic endeavors among students across the country.   

In Rhode Island, the honored finalists were Nicholas Dellasanta of Little Compton; Rosabel Forte of Providence, Brynn Carley of Barrington, Bean Costa of Pawtucket and Rebekah Sullivan of Slatersville. Costa took the top prize, and her winning artwork will be displayed in the United States Capital. She will also have the opportunity to fly to Washington, DC for the national reception. Cicilline will display second place winner Carley’s work in his DC office, with runner-ups Forte and Sullivan’s work in his district office.  

Cicilline, whose office was responsible for organizing the local competition, was thrilled at the chance to showcase the accomplishments of his young constituents saying “I am proud to have such artistic talent in our state and be able to celebrate that creativity.”
