RI’s Great Day of Service Coming in October
Tuesday, September 27, 2011
The Great Day of Service, now in its 7th year, has goals of serving more than 40 sites across Rhode Island on Columbus Day weekend, and is taking registration for individuals, families, and groups. Last year, more than 700 volunteers participated.
Sponsored by Beyond Our Walls, an interfaith organization based in Barrington and dedicated to community improvement, the Great Day of Service will include projects such as helping to build a house with Habitat for Humanity, painting homeless shelters, serving at meal sites, packing supplies for men and women in the armed forces, and more.
To register for volunteering, head straight to the Web site, here.
More ways to give
One of the projects, care packages for troops (which will be packed up October 10), needs donations of food, toiletries, books, as well as donations to cover the cost of additional purchased items. To know more about this project, click here.
Love to bake? Donate cookies for homeless RIers and local public safety employees. Home-baked are preferred, but all donations will be accepted. Drop off cookies at St. John's Church, 191 County Rd, Barrington, on Monday 10/10 between 8 and 9am. For more information, email Dee at [email protected].
