Salvation Army to Host “Give & Get” Sale During Salvation Army Week

Saturday, May 11, 2013

National Salvation Army Week honors the great work of the charitable organization.

The Salvation Army will be holding a special “Give and Get” sale that will run during National Salvation Army Week. On May 18th, Salvation Army shoppers who donate clothing or non-perishable food to one of the Family Stores in Worcester, Fitchburg, Framingham, Gardner, Northbridge or Spencer will receive 50% off their purchase. The discount does not apply to furniture and reconditioned cannot be combined with any other sale, coupon or offer.

Salvation Army's many thrift stores play an important role in furthering the organization's mission. Patrons of the stores can shop a large, diverse selection of resale clothing, furniture, electronics, books and toys at bargain prices.

National Salvation Army Week

This year National Salvation Army week runs from May 13 – May 19.

During his presidency, Dwight D. Eisenhower stated, "Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of brotherhood. In time of war, the men and women of this organization have brought to those serving their country far from home, friendliness and warm concern. In the quieter days of peace, their work has been a constant reminder to us all that each of us is neighbor and kin to all Americans, giving freely of themselves, the men and women of The Salvation Army have won the respect of all."

The first National Salvation Army Week was declared in 1954. The work The Salvation Army is recognized for has not changed since, i.e. to serve those in need without discrimination.

“National Salvation Army Week is a time for us to thank all of our generous donors and volunteers who allow us to accomplish all that we do," commented Major Copeland, Administrator of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) of Massachusetts

"Without their support, we would not be able to provide the wide array of programs and services that include: food for the hungry, gifts and counsel to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance to the disabled, early childhood learning centers, camping programs for youth, seniors and veterans and much more, 365 days a year.”.

Proceeds from this sale provide the direct funding for the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC), located in Worcester at 72 Cambridge Street. The ARC offers residential housing, work, and group and individual therapy, all in a clean, wholesome environment. The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society and return to gainful employment.

The Salvation Army ARC ministry in the United States provides an in-residence rehabilitation program with a focus on basic necessities. Each beneficiary (program recipient) is provided with a clean and healthy living environment, nutritional food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, spiritual direction, and resources to assist each person to develop life skills. The Salvation Army looks forward to working with you. For more information visit: www.SATRUCK.com or call 1-800-SATRUCK.
