Worcester K9 Assists with Arrest After Convenience Store Incident

Worcester police report, that during the investigation, police learned that two males were angry that the store was closed for business. The two males argued with the clerk to allow them to make a purchase. One of the males went into their vehicle and retrieved a firearm. The male pointed the firearm at the clerk. The clerk ran to the back of the store and called police.
A short time later, a K9 officer located the suspect vehicle at 719 Southbridge Street (Shell Gas Station). Additional officers arrived on scene and they approached the two male suspects. The males gave officers consent to search the vehicle. K9 Mattis assisted by conducting a search. K9 Mattis made a detection under the passenger seat where there was a loaded firearm. The two males were identified as the suspects involved in the incident at the store on Main Street.
Zachary Garcia, 22, of 34 Knox Street, Worcester was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Use of a Firearm in a Felony, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Carrying a Firearm without a License and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card and Defacing a Firearm Serial Number.
Erik Matos, 20, of 16 Akron Street Boston was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Use of a Firearm in a Felony, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Carrying a Firearm without a License and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card and Defacing a Firearm Serial Number.
K9 Mattis is certified in patrol and explosive detection.
