BREAKING: Marlborough Teachers Vote No Confidence in Superintendent

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Teachers in the Marlborough Public Schools unanimously voted “No Confidence” in school superintendent Anthony Pope this morning.

Brendan St. George, president of the Marlborough Educators Association, said the 440 member union voted at the Masonic Hall this morning.

“School committee chairman Arthur Vigeant was informed of the vote this morning,” St. George said. “A letter will be hand delivered to him later today.”

In a press release, the association cited disregard for student welfare and unprofessional behavior that has been demoralizing to the school community as key reasons for the vote.

As part of the no confidence vote, the union prepared a resolution that states that Pope’s actions “actions are not in the best interest of our students.”

“Although the superintendent is aware of these deficiencies, he has not addressed them in the 2011-2012 school year,” St. George said. “His actions are not in the best interest of our students. We fear that they will have a negative rippling effect on student success and achievement in the district for years to come.”

GoLocalWorcester contacted Vigeant’s office and was told that he is out of town at a meeting.
