Fattman’s Mailer Proves Campaign Immaturity

In a curious decision, State Representative Ryan Fattman (R), who is running against Senator Richard Moore (D) for the Worcester and Norfolk County State Senate seat, sent out a mailer to his constituents with a
picture of him licking the face of his wife, Stephanie Fattman.
Also in the limelight during this election year, Mrs. Fattman is running as the Republican candidate for Worcester County’s Register of Probate, against current Register Stephen G. Abraham.
“It's not very respectful to show anybody licking a potential Register of Probate - even their spouse,” said David S. Bernstein, contributing editor of Boston Magazine and analyst for WGBH.
Bernstein said, “I like when politicians let us see their personal sides, but there are still lines of decency to consider.”
Fattman was asked several times to respond to GoLocal, and yet his only attempt to return GoLocal's messages were several futile attempts at phone calls that dropped each time. Fattman kept "getting disconnected" and there was an "issue with his phone." Giving Fattman the benefit of a doubt, he did at least try to make some kind of comment about the picture, although we may never know what that commentary would have been.
Fattman, from Sutton, was a State Representative for only two terms before deciding to run against Senator Moore, who has been in the seat nearly twenty years. Last year, Moore was promoted to the third highest position in the Senate, President Pro Tempore.
As extreme as the face licking comes across, Fattman does show signs of subtlety finally.
According to Oxford resident Jeremy Lemoine, “I don’t think the mailer was his best marketing, but I have received numerous hand written notes on my door from him. You never see that anymore. I was impressed. He had been going door-to-door but I wasn’t home. Most said ‘Sorry, I missed you.’ That’s different from anyone else in an election in my opinion.”
