New Leadership Named for Worcester Consortium

Friday, July 20, 2012

Anna Maria College President Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D. and Becker College President Robert E. Johnson, Ph.D. were elected chair and vice chair of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium (COWC) Board of Directors. Both expressed continuing commitment to central Mass and higher education.

“I look forward to serving as Chair of the Board for the Worcester Consortium and working closely with my colleagues to identify and implement initiatives and best practices that can positively impact the central Massachusetts community,” Calareso said in a statement.

“I believe our greatest assets are the minds of our young people; we can be inspired by them as we work to make opportunities for them to thrive, contribute to, and lead in a global society. The Consortium can play a key role in attracting the best students and faculty to greater Worcester," Johnson said.

Founded in 1968, the COWC is a non-profit association of colleges in the Great Worcester area committed to advancing higher education in the region. The COWC has three main areas of focus: shared academic and administrative services for its members; access to higher education for first generation, low-income students and adults; and economic development and civic engagement in the Greater Worcester area.

In addition to Calareso and Johnson, new officers were elected to serve the board for two-year terms:  Past Chair: Gail E. Carberry, Ed.D., President, Quinsigamond Community College; Treasurer: Andrea Michaels, Vice President for Budget and Planning, Clark University; Clerk: Davis Baird, Ph.D., Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Clark University
