House Democrats Unveil 2 Articles of Impeachment Against Trump

Tuesday, December 10, 2019

Nancy Pelosi

House Democrats issued two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

The two articles are abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

“To impeach a President who has proven through results, including producing perhaps the strongest economy in our county’s history, to have one of the most successful presidencies ever, and most importantly, who has done nothing wrong, is sheer political madness,” Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday.

According to ABC News, the House Judiciary Committee is expected to publicly take up the articles for debate and approval as early as Thursday.

Articles Follow Investigation

The articles of impeachment follow a several month-long investigation by the House into Trump’s interactions with Ukraine.

It is alleged that Trump pressured Ukranian President Zelensky to investigate former Vice President and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his family.

The investigation included testimony from federal officials, documentary evidence, as well as, statements from Trump.

Impeachment in U.S.

The decision to impeach Trump would overturn the 2016 decision by voters to elect Trump as President.

Impeachment has only taken place twice in U.S. history, against Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.

Neither Clinton or Johnson were removed from office.
