House Speaker Pelosi to Support Formal Impeachment Inquiry of Trump
Tuesday, September 24, 2019
Pelosi will make her announcement on Tuesday afternoon following a meeting with her caucus.
Her decision comes days after reports surfaced that Trump might have pressured Ukranian President Zelensky to investigate former Vice President and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his family.
In response to the reports, Trump tweeted the following on Tuesday:
“I am currently at the United Nations representing our Country, but have authorized the release tomorrow of the complete, fully declassified and unredacted transcript of my phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine."
He continued, "You will see it was a very friendly and totally appropriate call. No pressure and, unlike Joe Biden and his son, NO quid pro quo! This is nothing more than a continuation of the Greatest and most Destructive Witch Hunt of all time!”
Impeachment in U.S.
The decision to impeach Trump would overturn the 2016 decision by voters to elect Trump as President.
Impeachment has only taken place twice in U.S. history, against Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.
Neither Clinton or Johnson were removed from office.
