Lt. Gov. Murray Talks Cellphone Records
Saturday, February 25, 2012
Lt. Governor Murray made these remarks to GoLocalWorcester in response to 2 Boston newspapers requesting his cellphone records in order to shed more light on his November 2 crash in Sterling where his state-issued Ford Crown Victoria crashed into a ledge. He was speeding at the time of the crash.
Governor Deval Patrick has been criticized for not keeping more detailed records of government-issued cellphones, including Murray's cellphone.
Murray told GoLocalWorcester, “We have turned over all the cellphone records that we had. I have been clear that I was not on the phone and was not speaking with anyone. We have turned over the emails that I have so we have given all the information. So they can choose to believe what they want to believe.”
Murray said he is just thankful to be alive and claims his constituents want to focus on the economy and not his car accident. “People I talk to want to talk about jobs and it seems the media wants to keep talking about this.”
MBTA budget deficit solution
During the same conversation Murray also addressed the MBTA budget crisis. He told us that the Governor is considering using the surplus from the snow removal budget (assuming this mild winter continues) to pay for the MBTA budget gap for this year. Murray said, "Due to the mild winter there's a surplus and some of that money might be used to fill the MBTA deficit." But he also acknowledged this is just a band-aid for a bigger problem with the MBTA and a larger conversation about its finances needs to be had.
On the Economy
Lt. Governor Murray is very pleased with the state of Massachusetts’ economy with the unemployment at 6.8 percent. He said as he drives around Worcester it makes him happy to see construction crews out and working.
