video: NEW: Warren Stands By “You Didn’t Build That” Comment

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

While President Obama has backed away from comments that business owners did not build their own success, US Senate hopeful, Elizabeth Warren (D) has continued to defend her statements. Warren has been called out for her comments by the Scott Brown campaign, which says that her statements are "anti-free enterprise."

Last night, the President released an ad that walks back those words and emphasizes the work it takes to run a business, but Warren continues to defend her remarks, which have drawn heat, especially from her opponent, Scott Brown (R-MA).

When asked recently whether she still supported those comments, Warren affirmed that she was holding to her remarks that business owners will “move your goods to market on roads the rest of us paid for.” The Scott Brown campaign issued a statement regarding Warren's continued defend.

"By walking back his earlier statement, it's clear that President Obama now realizes the bad advice he got from Professor Warren," said Jim Barnett, campaign manager for Brown for Senate.

Obama and Warren both made statements that told American business owners that they did not build what they have, but depend on a structure supported by everyone else. Obama’s new television ad features the President saying that, “Every day, hard-working people sacrifice to meet a payroll, create jobs, and make our economy run,” something that they say Warren won’t agree with.

"Professor Warren has turned on its head the American Idea that if you work hard, take a chance, and play by the rules you can build something no one can take away," Barnett said. "Instead, Warren promotes a dangerous philosophy that says what's yours actually belongs to everyone."
