2016 Greenway Challenge Set for September 24

The 2016 Greenway Challenge is set for Saturday, September 24 with a rain date set for October 1, and registration has begun. 

Registration continues through Wednesday, September 7. 

Teams and Divisions 

Teams of up to 9 members can compete in the Championship Level division, Corporate Cup (all members are co-workers in the same organization), All-Women Teams, Masters Division (all team members must be 50+ in age), Recreational Teams, and Ironman/ Ironwoman Divisions.  

The Race 

The challenge will take place over a 55+ mile course through section of both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. 

"The theme of this year’s course is “Up River,” as we’ll start “South” at Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln, RI, and finish “North” at the Whitin Community Center in Whitinsville, MA," said the challenge in a press release. 

This year's race features 8 sections and requires 7 transitions  all centered around three hubs including Lincoln Woods State Park, Douglas State Forest, and the Blackstone River State Park.

  • Start:         Lincoln Woods State Park, 8:30 a.m.
  • Segment #1:     Mass start open water paddle, ending at Lincoln Hub
  • Segment #2:     Road run loop around the lake, ending at Lincoln Hub
  • Segment #3:     Road Bike from Lincoln Woods to Douglas State Forest, ending at Douglas Hub
  • Segment #4:     Trail run loop, ending at Douglas Hub
  • Segment #5:     Road Bike from Douglas State Forest to Riverbend Farm, ending at Riverbend Hub
  • Segment #6:     River and canal paddle, starting and ending at Riverbend Hub
  • Segment #7:     Mountain Bike loop through Goat Hill trail system, ending at Riverbend Hub
  • Segment #8:     Road run from Riverbend Hub to the finish line celebration at Whitin Community Center
